Structural characteristics of MOS tube and IGBT

In electronic circuits, MOS and IGBT will often appear, and they can all be used as switching elements. MOS and IGBT are also somewhat similar in appearance and characteristic parameters. Why do some circuits use MOS? And some circuits use IGBTs?

The IGBT module is composed of an additional layer on the drain of the MOSFET.

The IGBT module is actually a combination of MOSFET and transistor triode. MOSFET has the disadvantage of high on-resistance, but the IGBT module gets rid of this disadvantage, and the IGBT module still has a low on-resistance at high voltage.

In addition, similar power capacity IGBT modules and MOSFETs, the speed of IGBT modules may be slower than MOSFETs.
