The role of power modules

Mar 04, 2022

A power module is a power electronic device that is re-potted into a module according to a certain combination of functions.

Function: It has the advantages of high current density, low saturation voltage and high voltage resistance of GTR (high power transistor), and the advantages of high input impedance, high switching frequency and low driving power of MOSFET (field effect transistor).

Moreover, IPM integrates logic, control, detection and protection circuits, which is easy to use, not only reduces the size and development time of the system, but also greatly enhances the reliability of the system, adapting to the development direction of today's power devices - modularization , composite and power integrated circuits (PIC), have been more and more widely used in the field of power electronics.

Extended information

The working principle is as follows: the operation frequency of the inverter compressor is high and low, and the inverter compressor operation control signal is input from the outdoor unit computer board to the power module, and the AC voltage, AC current and AC frequency output by the inverter of the power module are used to control the compression. The higher the number of machine revolutions, the higher the voltage, current and frequency output by the power module.

The higher the operating frequency and output power of the inverter compressor, on the contrary, the lower the voltage, current and frequency output by the power module, the lower the operating frequency and output power of the inverter compressor. The inside of the power module is composed of three groups (two in each group) of high-power switching transistors. Its function is to convert the DC voltage of the input module through the switching action of the transistors and invert it into a three-phase AC power supply that drives the compressor.

The voltage between the DC voltage P+ and N- input by the power module is usually about 310V, and the AC voltage output between any two phases of the U, V, and W terminals of the power module is generally 50V-200V. Note: U+, V+, W+ are upper arm, U-, V-, W- are lower arm.
