The magnetic core is made of low-loss, high-permeability crystal-oriented steel plate, and the step section has a 45° joint step lap assembly, and is equipped with a cooling channel.

The winding conductors are all made of 99.9% E-CU electrolytic copper.

Depending on the design of the transformer, the windings can be continuous or staggered discs, or simple or multiple spirals.

The cooling channel is made of appropriately shaped rods and guide rings. There is a tap on the HV winding, which can be controlled by a disconnect switch or an on-load tap switch.

The windings are dried in an autoclave to achieve precise dimensions and avoid continuous inelastic damage. The entire transformer is enclosed in an oil tank and filled with oil under vacuum conditions. Storage tanks are usually of vacuum type. Cooling is carried out by a radiator installed in the water tank: mainly used for bolting, detachable type; sometimes welding solution is used.
