What is SF6 gas?
Sep 17, 2020
At present, more than 90% of domestic medium voltage ring main units rely on SF6 gas as an insulating medium.
SF6 gas has very stable chemical properties, excellent insulation and arc extinguishing performance, and is widely used in power equipment. SF6 gas insulated switchgear is small in size, compact in structure, not affected by external environmental factors, and highly adaptable. However, this kind of gas will inevitably leak and discharge during inflation, operation, and recovery, and become a major source of pollution in the atmospheric environment. SF6 gas is one of the six internationally recognized greenhouse gases. From the perspective of environmental protection, SF6 gas should be used less or not. In addition, the "United Nations Convention on Climate Change" and the "Kyoto Protocol" have clear restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions and emission reduction targets. As a signatory country, my country also bears the unshirkable responsibility and obligation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, it is the consensus of the international community to gradually reduce SF6 gas emissions. The haze weather that has occurred many times across our country has sounded the alarm for environmental protection, and it is urgent to control air pollution.
In recent years, many companies at home and abroad have been carrying out research and application of environmentally friendly solid insulated ring mains without SF6 gas. And some products have been operating safely on the grid for more than seven years. The solid insulated ring main unit has nothing to do with SF6 gas from the principle of manufacturing, which provides a basic guarantee for emission reduction and environmental protection in the field of distribution network equipment, and it is very in line with the requirements of smart grid construction
